Welcome
to the "Sketches and Markmaking" area of the site. This is basically
where you can come to look at all of the ideas, concepts and roughs that
eventually become finished ideas (and some that just lanquish in concept
hell...).
Sometimes ideas are at their best in the wonderful primal stage of the
intial sketch. I always felt that a lot of ideas tend to become watered
down or too studied by the time the original idea has been finessed to
a "finished" illustration, and you end up with a less than spectacular
final rendering.
There is a lot of figure study, some still life, and a lot of mistakes
and trials and tribulations to be found in the pages and works you will
see on here. And that's okay. No one's sketchbook should be that clean
and wonderful and accurate. If it is, you are doing something wrong.
I have attempted to present the pages and sheets in their entirety so
you can see just how screwball and off the cuff the thought process I
go through really is. I think a lot of artists tend to do that... it becomes
a way to take notes, to get out your ideas, and to help build a feeling
of organization to the process of creation, which by its very notion is
notoriously anti-formulaic,... well,... it CAN be if you are doing it
right... :).
Not everything is up as of yet, so although the links above work, there
isn't a lot of content up yet.
