| F.A.Q. | |
| Where did you go to school at? | |
| Central Missouri State University ( I was on the 7 year plan ), somehow I got a BFA out of it all. | |
| Do you design for a living? | |
| Yeah, I work here in Independence, MO for a really cool company called Stirred Water Studios. I do a lot of both print and web design. | |
| When did you start drawing? | |
| My earliest memory of art making was first grade, but according to my mother, the fridge was graced with expressionistic mark making far before that. | |
| What is your favorite current project? | |
| This cool animated/live action concept called "Donkey Island". | |
| What is your favorite medium to work in? | |
| I love the digital medium ( Adobe Illustrator ALL the way, man!) for colouring, but nothing beats getting a really good watercolour painting to come together, know what I mean? | |
| Who are your insprirations? | |
| Oooog... well. First and foremost, da Vinci, Alan Lee, and John Howe. Then probably Tim Burton, Stan Winston, Jaime Beswarick, George Lucas, Steven Speilberg, Peter Jackson, John Lasseter, Mucha, Thomas Blackshear, Brom, Rembrant, John Lynch, John Willard, George Sample, John Louder, Tim Bradstreet, Ray Harryhausen, Frank Cho, and the musical bands Type O Negative and HIM. | |
| Hobbies? | |
| Reading and watching anything having to do with history pre-dating the 1940's. Model building. War gaming. Video games. Collecting artwork and toys. Watching the production diaries, post production reels, or behind the scenes special effects bits on DVDs,... WAY more interesting than the movies most of the time. :) | |
| Are you an Illustrator or a Designer? | |
| *sigh*, really, anymore, you have to be both, and that is what I am. More by design and the ever changing marketplace than by choice. In the end though, it means I have complete control over things like marketing myself and even maintaining this site. Most of the guys I went to school with who are still in this feild had to adapt or be in danger of being left behind. | |
| What is your greatest fear professionally? | |
| Clip Art CDs (they make EVERYONE think they can be designers...), and arthritis in my hands. | |
| Who, in your opinion has a great sense of design to their brand? | |
| Hands down, Target. They have SOOO got it together. Oh, and Macintosh can't be left out of this either. | |
| Who else as a design studio do you admire? | |
| Oh man,... well probably Pixar is at the top of my list,... have you SEEN their work environment? Brilliant! But I recently got to meet two of the guys from 3 Dogz Design Studio, (they are located in Canada) at the recent 2006 HOW Design Conference. Abso-freakin-lutely halarious guys (they dressed up as Elvis), and incredible, just incredible, designs and art. | |
What's up with "Pagan Zoetrope"/"Red Front"/(insert random property here)? |
|
| Truth be told, I am still working on them. When I get the chance that is. Currently, its been hard as hell to get any spare time to do anything more than the projects I am doing for Stirred Waters. But they aren't on permanent hiatus or anything, and each one is getting a section of the site to themselves. You may all be surprised when you see what ends up online. :) | |
